How did you get started as an artist?

I started when I began teaching at the university level in 1990. I discovered the world of quilting and started to design clothes that are quilted. Around 2000 I began to work on digital printing on textiles and fell in love with Art quilts.

What themes does your work involve?

My artwork is grounded in human experience, reflective practice, and learning through making. It uses the methods of quilting, craft (making by hand), photography, and exhibition, and to critically question elements of contemporary culture and society. It sits within the context of arts and culture via the celebration of our human imagination that is manifest through art and celebrated via exhibitions in museums and galleries. A component of design thinking is translating my personal thoughts and concepts through a lens particular to a perspective I can translate for others to see in a tangible state. Communication using digital technology, I can form a cohesive understanding of how I will present my art/design.

What is your source of inspiration?

Dreams are a source of great inspiration as well as thoughts and wild imagination.

Do you have any artistic goals for the future that you would like to share?

I am near retirement and plan to continue working on art quilts and fashion design with a focus on quilting, digital technology, textile printing, and 3D elements into my work.
